What we do

SAIL provides structured, trauma-informed support. Every individual arrives with different needs, abilities, and levels of independence — so the pathway lets people progress at a pace that is right for them.

Our support pathway

A three-tier approach

Every individual arrives with different needs, abilities, and levels of independence. For this reason, SAIL operates a clear three-tier support pathway, allowing residents to progress at a pace that is right for them.

Tier 1

Intensive stabilisation support

This level is designed for individuals who require a high degree of structure and support.

  • Fully furnished accommodation
  • All meals provided — three meals a day, and a weekly tuck shop for snacks
  • Full housekeeping and maintenance support
  • 24/7 staff presence
  • Support with maximising benefits, health registration, and immediate needs

The focus is on safety, stabilisation, and trust-building. Residents are given time to settle, recover, and feel secure without pressure to perform or progress too quickly.

Tier 2

Supported independence

As residents become more stable, support gradually shifts toward skill-building and shared responsibility.

  • Support to learn basic domestic skills
  • Gradual involvement in cleaning, cooking, and self-care tasks
  • Encouragement to engage with health services, training, volunteering, or employment support
  • Ongoing tenancy sustainment and wellbeing support

Staff work proactively alongside residents, helping them develop confidence, routines, and practical life skills while still providing a safety net.

Tier 3

Move-on and community living

When residents are ready, we support them to take the next step into independent accommodation.

  • Help sourcing suitable, affordable housing
  • Support with benefits, budgeting, and tenancy setup
  • Practical assistance with moving
  • Ongoing advice and light-touch support post-move

Many former residents remain in contact with SAIL long after moving on — calling for advice, reassurance, or simply to let us know how they are doing. We see this as a sign of trust and success.

Working with partners

A joined-up approach

SAIL works closely with:

  • Local authorities
  • Health services
  • Mental health teams
  • Employment, training, and voluntary sector organisations

This joined-up approach helps ensure residents receive the right support at the right time.
